Peer Mentoring - College Positive Volunteerism
In a continuous effort to create Leadership opportunities for participants in Macomb Community College's Mentorship program, students interested in peer-mentoring will be prepared to become College Positive Volunteers. Training and detailed strategies are implemented from the CPV Model designed by Chief Diversity Officer, Dr. Paul Hernandez, at Lansing Community College in Michigan.
MCC students are trained by CPV Trainers (MCC staff members) to assist new incoming students in the College Success Skills 1200 Course and beyond. The pre-requisite for qualifying to become a CPV is successful completion of CSSK 1200, as well as completion of any additional courses taken concurrently with CSSK 1200.
Through an opportunity for peer-mentoring, student mentors seek to connect with underrepresented students upon their entrance to MCC as freshmen. In keeping with the primary goals of helping students acquire problem solving and decision making skills, CPV's will also:
